Two men charged for assaulting police officers in Sheffield

Two men have been charged with assault after two police officers were attacked in Sheffield last Thursday (January 2).

William Eades, 27 of Roxton Road in Sheffield has been charged with assaulting an emergency services worker and Jamie Young, 32, of Norton Park Road has been charged with assault.

Young has also been charged with one count of theft.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said the police officers were assaulted whilst responding to reports of shoplifting in town.

“The charges are related to an incident where the police officers were assaulted whilst responding to reports of shoplifting in the Abbey Lane area of Sheffield.

“Following the incident, one of the police officers was taken to hospital with minor injuries.”

Both of the police officers are now recovering at home.

Eades and Young appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Saturday (January 4) and were bailed until January 10.
