POLICE have issued a warning about the dangers of laser pens after revealing helicopter crews in Nottinghamshire have been aimed at 15 times over the last 10 months.

Offenders face up to life in prison for endangering the safety of an aircraft.

Sergeant Christine McQuaid, of the North Midlands Helicopter Unit, said: “People often think shining a laser pen is a bit of fun but pointing it at cars, planes, or other vehicles is very dangerous.

“A laser pen emits an intense light which can blind a driver or a pilot.”
