Two drug addicts who raided a Doncaster babycare shop have been jailed

Two drug addicts who left thousands of pounds of damage in their wake after they raided a babycare shop have been jailed.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on March 17 how Christopher Sanderson, aged 22, of no fixed address, and Mark Flynn, 37, of Grove Place, Balby Bridge, Doncaster, struck at the Stork Pram and Cot Centre on Market Road, Doncaster.

Bev Wright, prosecuting, said the owners were alerted by the alarm company and discovered a smashed window and a baby car seat stolen and prams damaged by broken glass.

CCTV operators helped police track down Sanderson and Flynn was chased by officers and the car seat was found, according to Ms Wright.

The complainant stated the business has suffered over £4,000 in damage and losses after the burglary in January.

Flynn and Sanderson, who both have previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the burglary.

Rebecca Tanner, defending, said Flynn has expressed regret and remorse and drugs have been his underlying problem.

Andrew Swaby, defending, said Sanderson had been in the care of the local authority as a youngster and has been homeless.

He added that substance misuse became a problem for Sanderson.

Judge Rachael Harrison sentenced Sanderson and Flynn to two years and three months each.

She told them: “There are elements for both of you that you are institutionalised and you commit offences to get sent back to prison and you both have drug addictions.

“In my judgement, the public need protecting from both of you.”
