Two arrested for firearms offences in dramatic Sheffield police operation

Police say no shots were fired in an incident in which two people were arrested for firearms offences in Sheffield earlier today.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunfire followed by an armed police presence on Stubbin Lane in Firth Park earlier this afternoon.

However, police said no firearms were discharged in the incident.

Two men in their 20s were arrested at the scene on suspicion of possessing an illegal firearm, they added.

A police spokesperson said: “Today, Sunday 31 May, armed police officers were deployed to Firth Park in Sheffield.

‘‘People in the local area may have heard sounds similar to a firearms discharge.

‘‘We would like to reassure you that no firearms were used and no members of the public or police officers were injured.

‘‘Two men in their 20’s were arrested on suspicion of possession of an illegal firearm. They remain in police custody.’’
