Tributes paid to grandad and ‘loveable rogue’ who died after Rotherham crash

A 74-year-old old man who died after a crash in Rotherham has been named.

At 8.30pm last Tuesday (February 18), police were called to a collision on Long Road in Brampton-en-le-Morthern.

Officers carried out initial area searches to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

At around 8.30am the next morning, officers received a call from the ambulance service reporting that a body had been found on Long Road, close to the scene of the collision.

The man has been named as John Webb.

Mr Webb’s family has now released this tribute: “Beloved dad, grandad and uncle to family members across the world, John Webb will be remembered as a loveable rogue who always lived life to the full.

“Although sadly diminished by an unforgiving condition, he never stopped exploring the place where he lived and enjoying his freedom. He will be missed.”

The family has also asked for privacy at what is a difficult time for them. They continue to be supported by specialist officers.

If you were driving through Long Road last Tuesday evening and witnessed the collision, or saw any lone pedestrians on the road, officers want to speak to you.

They are especially keen to hear from any motorists who hold dash cam footage.

The incident was initially referred to the Independent Office Of Police Conduct (IOPC), which determined it did not require an independent investigation or IOPC oversight.

The matter will now be investigated at a local level by the force’s professional standards department.
