Sheffield Crown Court heard on March 8 how Lee Jones, aged 29, of Burnham Grove, Scawthorpe, Doncaster, accused his ex-partner during their former relationship of cheating and he punched, kicked, strangled, ripped her underwear and struck her with a mirror and a spanner.

His victim who stated she feels she has been traumatised by Jones’s actions for the rest of her life also claimed he had urinated in her footwear.

Recorder David Gordon told Jones: “She says as a consequence of your behaviour she has been isolated from her friends and requires support from her family since the end of the relationship and describes how she felt trapped.”

Andrew Petterson, prosecuting, said the relationship started in May, 2019, but became difficult from December, 2019, when Jones started to accuse the complainant of cheating.

Mr Petterson added 6ft and 2ins tall Jones, who weighs 19 stones, kicked her in the face, strangled her and hit her with objects and on one occasion ripped her clothes off including underwear.

Jones also struck her with a mirror over her back and hit her with a spanner, according to Mr Petterson.

Mr Petterson said the defendant also threw the complainant to the floor after she had been watching a boxing match at a friend’s home and pulled her around the house and he kicked her.

He constantly messaged the complainant when she had been playing poker at her brother’s home, according to Mr Petterson, and he threatened to strangle her and he deleted pictures of injuries the complainant had taken on her phone.

Mr Petterson said on January 9, this year, Jones had accused the complainant of being unfaithful before he punched and strangled her and attempted to force bed covers into her mouth and threw a cup of hot water at her.

Jones pleaded guilty to using controlling and coercive behaviour.

Edward Moss, defending, said while Jones has been in custody awaiting sentence he has learned his lesson and his apology is genuine and he accepts the relationship is over.

Recorder Gordon sentenced Jones to 27 months of custody and imposed an indefinite restraining order.
