Thug spat at staff member at Sheffield Children’s Hospital before threatening to kill him

A Sheffield man who spat at and threatened to kill children’s hospital staff after they refused him money has been jailed.

Gavin Parkin was charged with five public order offences after approaching a woman on Western Bank and asking her for money.

When she refused but offered to buy him food at a nearby shop, he became aggressive, spitting at her.

PC Samantha Metcalfe, investigating, said: “Parkin followed her to a shop, but made more demands for money.

“His aggression raised concerns with security staff from the Sheffield Children’s Hospital who intervened.

“As the security guard approached to help the woman, who was a colleague at the hospital, Parkin made threats to kill him and continued to demand money.”

Parkin, 38, is known to persistently be involved with anti-social behaviour and aggressive begging in the area surrounding the hospital.

He received a three month prison sentence and a £128 victim surcharge at Sheffield Magistrates Court on May 5.
