Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at the Sheffield Crown Court building – heard this month how Richid Abdul Majoud, 27, of Nottingham Street, Sheffield, used both hands to strike his partner on both sides of her head.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said Majoud had gone to bed in the afternoon after he had been struggling to complete paperwork but after he was woken by the sound of his eldest daughter having a tantrum he shouted at his partner and assaulted her.

Mr Coyne added: “He raised both hands and hit her on both sides of her head and caused immediate pain and her nose bled.”

The assault happened at 3.30pm, on April 4, according to Mr Coyne, and when the police arrived Majoud’s partner had blood coming from her nose.

Majoud’s partner stated she was disappointed in his behaviour and she had been scared of the way he had reacted and that he needs help with anger issues.

The defendant pleaded guilty to assault by beating after the attack.

Hester Russell, defending, said: “He has no previous convictions of a domestic nature and he has accepted responsibility for what happened and he is extremely apologetic.”

She added that the defendant’s family is under pressure because the youngest of the couple’s children has spina bifida.

District Judge Grace Leong sentenced Majoud to eight-weeks of custody suspended for 12 months.
