A Sheffield man who shot his best friend in the head during ‘drunken horseplay’ could walk free within 18 months.
Russell Fairchild, aged 47, was told he must serve at least half of a three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to causing the death of Chris Humphreys.
Sheffield Crown Court heard how Fairchild had brought out an air rifle when he returned home from a drinking session with the 24-year-old in May.
Believing the gun was not loaded, he fired a shot. The pellet went above Mr Humphreys’ eye and penetrated his brain.
Paramedics were called out to the scene in Handsworth Grange Road, Handsworth and the victim was taken to hospital. He died six days later.
