Three Sheffield men arrested after series of Chesterfield burglaries

Police received a call about a silver car type van, and a group of men, acting suspiciously on Foljambe Avenue between around 11.30am and 1.45pm.

The van was later seen on Sheffield Road, Whittington Moor, at around 2.25pm heading from Chesterfield towards the Tesco superstore and officers followed.

It travelled towards Old Whittington and along Broomhill Road, before being abandoned on Mallory Close.

A search was carried out of the surrounding area and the men were arrested in woodland, off Whittington Lane near Unstone.

The men, two aged 28 and one aged 26, and from Sheffield, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and are currently in police custody.

Officers are currently investigating five burglaries which were reported yesterday, on Foljambe Avenue and Walton Road, Walton, Wheatcroft Close, Wingerworth, Chesterfield Road, Matlock, and on Slate Lane in Holymoorside.Acting Inspector Colin McInulty, who is in charge of policing in the Chesterfield area, said: “While inquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances of the incidents yesterday, it goes without saying that we are grateful for the support of our local communities, who by their reporting any suspicious activity, can potentially help us to both prevent and detect crime in their neighbourhood.
