He said: “I finished work at 1am then came home. My wife told me something had happened outside. I just saw police and they said ‘Don’t worry’. They didn’t speak to us this morning.
“My wife just told me there were police outside. I told her ‘Stay at home and lock the door’.
The man, who emigrated to England from the Middle East, added: “It’s not a good area at all. There’s teenagers and fights always. My family has been racially abused four times.
“Something like this isn’t a surprise.”
Mourners laid flowers at the scene this morning, which was guarded by an extensive police cordon on Woodthorpe Road and part of Hastilar Road South. Six police vehicles were also present.
