A thief who stole booze from two stores has been given help to beat his drugs problem.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on January 22 how Scott Mair, 53, of no fixed abode, stole bottles of spirits from a Marks and Spencer store on January 7 and a Tesco in Sheffield on January 21.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse said Mair had been due to be sentenced for the theft from Marks and Spencer after this case had been deferred until March but in the meantime he struck at Tesco.

Mair, who already has a community order, admitted the Tesco theft and failing to provide a drugs sample.

Mair’s community order was revoked and he was sentenced for all matters to a 12-month community order with a rehabilitation requirement and a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement. He must pay a £90 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
