Thief jailed less than 48 hours after being ‘caught red-handed’ during burglary

A thief has been jailed for five months less than 48 hours after he was caught “red-handed” during a burglary in Rotherham town centre.

Jason Grayson, aged 43, was arrested after officers were notified of a break-in a business premises on Bridge Street at around 2.30am yesterday (Thursday, 13 August).

Grayson was still on scene when officers arrived.

Rotherham Central Inspector, Chris Blake, said: “We know how much of an issue commercial burglary is for our business community in Rotherham, and we are doing all we can to work with owners and reduce offending.

"Grayson was caught red-handed and has been recalled straight back to prison as a result of being charged.”

Inspector Blake added: “I hope this reassures people that we are committed to protecting and supporting local businesses, and those who seek to do them harm will be punished.”
