This was the moment police caught two balaclava-clad scooter riders were finally arrested, after one of them took to social media to brag about how “he smoked the cops.”
The police chase through the Thurcroft area of Rotherham was brought to a halt, after the scooter riders came off the bike when the driver attempted to navigate a bend at speed.
In an amusing social media post, a member of South Yorkshire Police’s Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team explained: “In mid-January we were patrolling Thurcroft, following reports of kids in balaclavas, just having fun!
“It wasn't long before one of our unmarked units clocked a silver scooter, with no plate three up, all their little balaclavas bobbing along in unison.
“The rider clocks our unit and they're off, the rider flat to the stop, the little125cc, singing its heart out with the weight. Straight through some bollards and gone.
“As they politely gestured to the officer, they thought they were home and dry.
“As luck would have it, we were just cresting the hill, as the masked heroes came into view.
“Blue lights on tick, siren on tick, pursuit on tick, risk assessment tick. Rational suspect stolen motorcycle used in crime.
“One of the little darlings, deciding that he would rather run home to mummy dismounted and made good on his toes. Good decision Bruce !!
“To be fair this made it a little more sporting, so off the rider goes already writing his social media post about how he smoked the cops.
“While the rider was day dreaming about content creation, he failed to see the sharp right hand turn ahead and ran out of talent.
“Brake, brake, more brake, slap, tarmac, tarmac, run. The passenger had clearly had three Weetabix, leaving the rider wondering why he had ignored cardio day.
“In swoop the cavalry, you are not going to outrun the bike. Clip, grab, grab harder, pull, wrestle and two detained.
“Motorcycle suspect stolen and various driving offences. Let's hope we get a result at court.
“We love it when a plan comes together.”
