The faces of some of the city's most violent criminals locked up in Sheffield

Below are six defendants whose offending resulted in custody.

PAUL NEWTON

Paul Newton was jailed to 18-months of custody after he breached a restraining order and assaulted his ex-partner.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on June 2 how Newton, aged 33, of South Street, Barnsley, entered his ex-partner's property, showed her he had a knife and grabbed her.

Newton pleaded guilty to assault, breaching the restraining order and to possessing a knife.

JAMES WALKER

James Walker was sentenced to 15-months of custody after an attempted carjacking.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on May 6 how Walker, aged 35, of Norfolk Close, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, flagged down a motorist on Burton Road, at Monk Bretton, before reaching into the vehicle and stealing car keys and threatening another motorist.

Walker pleaded guilty to theft and affray.

He also admitted stealing a man’s phone and assaulting in a separate incident.

LEON ROBINSON

Leon Robinson has been jailed for one-year after he assaulted two police officers.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on May 14 how Robinson, aged 36, formerly of East Street, Darfield, Barnsley, had been arrested after he was at the address of his partner despite a restraining order.

David Marshall, prosecuting, said Robinson struck an officer and threw items during his police interview and put another officer in a state of apprehension.

Robinson admitted breaching a restraining order, causing damage and two counts of assault.

DONOVAN GASKIN

Donovan Gaskin was jailed for three-years and eight-months after he stole a purse and threatened others.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on May 4 how Gaskin, aged 35, of no fixed abode, had been given money from a woman before he barged into her and stole her purse on March 27, on Norfolk Row, in Sheffield.

Jonathan Sharp, prosecuting, said a bus-driver ran after Gaskin before the defendant brandished a syringe at him and other witnesses.

Gaskin pleaded guilty to robbery and affray.

LOUIS WINDSOR-HARRIS

Louis Windsor-Harris, of Doncaster, was sentenced to 42-weeks of custody after he strangled his partner.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how Windsor-Harris, aged 21, grabbed the woman in a head-lock and pushed her at her home in March.

Prosecutor Beverly Wright said Windsor-Harris grabbed his partner’s throat and later hurled a bottle at her and pushed her into a fridge.

Ms Wright added Windsor-Harris put a knife to his partner’s throat and later used another knife during which he held to her eye.

Windsor-Harris, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault.

MARTIN TOYNE

Martin Toyne assaulted his girlfriend during the coronavirus lockdown.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Toyne threw the woman against a radiator, kneed her and grabbed her by the throat at her home in Rotherham, on April 14.

Richard Tyne, prosecuting, said days earlier, Toyne slapped her before throwing an ornament at her and on another occasion he pushed her into a sink.

Toyne, 38, of Oaks Lane, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to assault, battery and two counts of GBH and was sentenced to three-years of custody.
