Terrified staff tied up and '£30,000 stolen' during horror Post Office robbery

A member of staff was tied up and £30,000 was reportedly stolen after a terrifying robbery on a Doncaster Post Office.

The gang attacked the Post Office in Montrose Avenue, Intake and subjected one member of staff to a frightening ordeal before fleeing with cash.

Police are now calling for the public’s help in tracking down the gang responsible for the raid.

Police were called at around 1.47pm on 15 April with reports of a robbery at the post office.

Detective Constable Andy Gray said: “This incident appears to have been carefully planned, with one offender entering the shop and causing a distraction, before two further men entered the premises.

“Once inside, one of the men restrained a member of staff, whilst the other accessed a safe stealing a significant amount of cash.

“Thankfully the staff member wasn’t injured but they were left incredibly distressed by what happened.

“The men were described as being white and spoke with local accents.

“Our enquiries are continuing to identify those responsible and I’d like to hear from anyone who has information about what happened that afternoon."

Police have not confirmed the amount taken in the raid but it is understood to be in the region of £30,000.

Details of the raid on the Post Office – which is in a small parade of shops off Shaftesbury Avenue in Intake – have only just been released by South Yorkshire Police.
