Two teenagers have been arrested after a man was attacked for challenging youths for not wearing masks on a Sheffield tram.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested over an incident on Park Grange Croft, between Heeley and Norfolk Park, last Tuesday.

Joseph Hawker, aged 27, challenged two youths for not wearing masks designed to stop the spread of coronavirus as he made his way home from work.

He was backing up a tram conductor, who had also asked the youths to wear their masks.

They followed him when he got off the tram and attacked him before stealing his bag.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with robbery and is due at court today.

A 15-year-old boy, also arrested on suspicion of robbery, has been released under investigation.
