Teenager found guilty of murdering stab victim Sheffield dad-of-one Lewis Bagshaw

Sheffield Crown Court has heard how 21-year-old Lewis Bagshaw, of Sheffield, was chased and stabbed twice in the chest before he was found on Piper Crescent, near the Southey Green area of Sheffield, on July 21, 2019, and died in hospital.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied murder but a jury found him guilty today, Monday, March 2.

Hide AdHis three co-accused including Callum Ramsey, 18, of Batworth Drive, Shirecliffe, Jervaise Bennett, 20, of no fixed abode, and Nicki Humphrey, 42, of Avenue Grove, Harrogate, were found not guilty of murder.
Nicholas Campbell QC, prosecuting, told the trial Mr Bagshaw was attacked after a dispute arose following an assault on Mr Bagshaw’s father Daniel Cutts by the 17-year-old and allegedly by Mr Humphrey over a drugs dispute.
Mr Campbell said the 17-year-old had been in a BMW X5 car with his three co-accused when they crossed paths with Mr Bagshaw and his friends in Vauxhall Corsa, on Piper Crescent, on July 21.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Mr Cutts but Mr Humphrey was found not guilty of causing GBH or GBH with intent.

Hide AdConcerning the 17-year-old, Mr Justice Matthew Nicklin said: “I must take a report before his sentencing. There is only one sentence of life for murder but I have to consider a minimum term for what he has to serve before he can be released.”
The 17-year-old who had been involved in drug-dealing, according to his counsel, claimed he had not murdered or responded to being threatened by Mr Bagshaw.
Humphrey claimed he played no part of the attacks on Mr Cutts or Mr Bagshaw and claimed he had only been driving.
Bennett claimed he had no idea Mr Bagshaw would be assaulted and never encouraged anyone to attack him.
Ramsey claimed he had played no part in any violence.

Hide AdMr Justice Nicklin remanded the 17-year-old in custody to consider a report before sentencing during the week of April 20.
Ramsey pleaded guilty to supplying class B drugs and was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work.
