Teenage drug-offender caught with cannabis in Sheffield with intent to supply

A teenage drug-offender was caught intending to supply cannabis after a police raid at a Sheffield property.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on February 8 how Saif Ahmed, aged 19, was arrested after police raided a property on Rushdale Road, Meersbrook, Sheffield, on February 14, 2019.

Jane Brady, prosecuting, said police searched the address and found cannabis valued at £842 and £1,275 in cash as well as several mobile phones and weighing scales.

Ahmed pleaded guilty to possessing the controlled class B drug with intent to supply and he also admitted possessing £1,275 which is supected to be the proceeds from criminal conduct.

The court also heard that Ahmed has previous convictons and is currently serving a sentence at HMP and YOI Doncaster, at Marsh Gate.

Judge Roger Thomas QC told Ahmed: “You are only 19 now but let’s be real about this. You have already clocked-up some very serious offences and who knows how your life is going to carry on when you get released later this year.”

He warned the 19-year-old that he has seen offenders reach 30 and 40-years-old and they have thrown their lives away.

Judge Thomas sentenced Ahmed to 12 months of detention in a Young Offender Institution.

But he stressed that the sentence would be served from the day of the court hearing and not consecutively to the defendant’s current custodial sentence which is expected to be completed in around six months.
