A GOLDTHORPE youth who spray painted graffiti on a property had to apologise to the owner and pay compensation as part of a scheme aimed at avoiding court.
Both parties agreed that the restorative justice scheme would be appropriate for dealing with the case.
PC Stuart Leadbeater, of Dearne Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Restorative justice is ideal for low-level crime.
“The scheme encourages an offender to apologise to the victim and make good the damage caused or pay compensation as in this case.
“The aim of the scheme is that the offender will learn from the experience and be grateful they did not have to go through the court system.”
