Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on March 12 how Alison Shaw, 52, of Warren Lane, Chapeltown, Sheffield, had been approached by police after her son had called officers because he had been concerned about his mother driving.

David Marshall, prosecuting, said police stopped Shaw in Sheffield and she was taken to the station and failed to provide a specimen of breath.

Phil Jones, defending, said Shaw claims her failure to provide a specimen had not been deliberate.

He added she has suffered a relationship breakdown and has health issues where she has lapses of consciousness.

Magistrates fined Shaw £120. She must pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs. She was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
