Suspect arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after young man injured in South Yorkshire shooting

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man suffered a gunshot wound during an incident in a South Yorkshire town last night.

Emergency services were called to Burman Road in Wath upon Dearne at around 8.05pm following reports that shots had been fired outside a supermarket.

A 29-year-old man was found with an injury to his back.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

Detective Inspector Denise Booth, of South Yorkshire Police said: “There will be extra policing resources in the area, carrying out detailed enquiries to establish the exact circumstances around what happened and provide reassurance to local residents.
