Father Grant Naylor, who is parish priest at St Matthew’s Church on Carver Street, was horrified by the latest blood-letting on the city’s streets.

“Yet another stabbing in the parish. Prayers offered today at Mass. Stop this senseless violence!” he tweeted.

St Matthew’s tweeted from its account: “We pray for an end to these stabbings and this violence. We call on all in the community to work together to end #knifecrime in #Sheffield.”

Division Street and Carver Street were both cordoned off this morning following the stabbing.

Police said earlier today that the 19-year-old remained in hospital in a serious condition and a 23-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder was in police custody.

The 16-year-old boy also remains in hospital following the shooting, believed to have taken place close to Thirlwell Road, though police said his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The 30-year-old man sustained minor injuries and has since been discharged from hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and drink driving, and has been released on police bail.
