Armed police and aeroplane sent out over report of man with gun
Police found no evidence of a gunman after call to location in Sheffield
Police sent armed officers and an aeroplane to a Sheffield neighbourhood after a report of a man with a gun.
South Yorkshire Police sent a response team just before 10pm on Wednesday (November 4) following the call, with the National Police Air Service circling overhead to assist over the report, from a residential street in Stannington.
A spokesman said: “At 9.48pm yesterday (Wednesday November 4), we were called to reports of a person with a firearm at Fairbarn Drive, Sheffield.
“Armed officers attended the location, and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) supported the search for the suspect.”

However, no suspect was located, and no evidence of any guns being fired was found.
The National Police Air Service sent one of its aeroplanes from its base at the East Midlands Airport.
The NPAS said: “At 10.02pm on Wednesday November 4 2026, a police aeroplane crew was deployed to the Sheffield area to assist South Yorkshire Police with a search for a suspect.”
The aircraft was in the sky over the city for 25 minutes.
