Spurned South Yorkshire stalker left ex-partner living in fear

Sheffield Crown Court heard today, October 5, how Callum Platts, aged 24, of King Street, Swallownest, Rotherham, admitted stalking his ex-partner after he repeatedly visited her home and phoned her during June after they had separated.
Louise Reevell, prosecuting, said: “She felt scared when he was shouting and banging on the door and she did not feel safe in her own home and she is hoping to move.”

Hide AdMs Reevell added Platts was twice seen pacing up-and-down the pavement outside the complainant’s home saying he wanted her back and during another incident she saw his vehicle near her home and he grabbed her arm and asked why she was not talking to him.
During other incidents he came to the back of the property and was banging on the door and started hitting himself and he also phoned her in tears from his phone and phoned her from his mother’s number, according to Ms Reevell.
Ian Brooke, defending, said: “This was Callum’s first relationship and he appears to have been utterly obsessed with effecting a reconciliation.”
Mr Brooke added Platts has co-dependency issues and had become dependant upon the complainant to maintain his mood and the breakdown of the relationship had been traumatic for him.

Hide AdJudge Sarah Wright sentenced Platts to a 12 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement and a five-year restraining order.
