"Speedy" booze-fuelled motorist is caught over drink-drive limit

A boozy motorist who was allegedly spotted driving at speed by police was found to be over the drink-drive limit.

Alan Newall, aged 51, of Deerlands Avenue, Sheffield, was allegedly driving a Ford Fiesta over the speed limit when he was pulled over by police and caught drink-driving, according to a Sheffield Magistrates’ Court hearing.

Matthew Duffy, prosecuting, told the hearing on January 9 how police believed Newall was speeding and he later registered 45 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes.

Mr Duffy said Newall has also admitted to a previous drink-driving matter but this is subject to a pending special-reasons hearing.

Karen Moxon-Smith, defending, said the special-reasons hearing relates to suspected drink-spiking.

Magistrates opted to adjourn sentencing until February 18 to tie-in all matters at one hearing.
