A recruitment day is to be held in Sheffield for anyone interested in becoming a special police constable.

Shaun Wright, South Yorkshire police and crime commissioner, has set a target of recruiting 650 special officers by next April.

He said: “Improving police visibility across South Yorkshire is one of my top priorities and special constables are part of that plan.

“We have a target for special constable recruitment of 650 by April 2015.

“Life is busy for us all, so it takes an exceptional individual to give up their own time to serve their community.

“In return, the job they do is rewarding and adds great value to their skills and experience.

“I hope to see a range of people coming forward to join our Special Constabulary, supporting the work of our regular officers and enjoying a new challenge.”

The event is at the Glacier Suite, iceSheffield, Attercliffe, tomorrow, from 10am to 3pm.
