Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on October 8 how Ashley Fletcher, aged 27, of St Anne’s Road, Rotherham, had been subject to a restraining order to keep away from his mother but it had expired when he began bothering her again.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, told a previous magistrates’ court hearing Fletcher’s mother said her son had been seeing the wrong crowd between April and July, 2019 and she was being badgered for money and this culminated in an attack on his step-father in Rotherham.

Fletcher’s mother was with her partner on July 2, 2019, according to Mr Coyne, when the defendant began demanding money and his step-father crossed the road to call police.

Mr Coyne said Fletcher punched his step-father and there was a scuffle captured on CCTV showing the defendant punching the complainant once more causing him to fall to the ground.

The complainant was knocked unconscious and he was kicked, according to Mr Coyne.

Fletcher, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and he was found guilty of harassment in his absence on August 19. He also admitted breaching a bail condition.
