Sheffield Crown Court heard today, July 1, how Craig Eddis, aged 44, formerly of Canklow Road, Rotherham, had been staying with his ex-partner when he unleashed a vicious attack upon her in her flat with punches and kicks.

Judge Rachael Harrison told Eddis: “The level of fear your ex-partner must have suffered cannot be imagined and it’s clear it’s had an on-going effect on her.”

Louise Gallagher, prosecuting, said Eddis had been in a bad mood because of an argument with a neighbour and when his ex-partner discussed him moving out he turned on her.

Eddis pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after the attack on March 16.

Brigid Baillie, defending, said both Eddis and his ex-partner are methadone-users and had previously been heroin-users. She added they had been in an on-off relationship for over 20 years.

Ms Baillie said that the complainant had a new boyfriend and Eddis had lost his temper and it was not a premeditated attack.

Judge Harrison sentenced Eddis to ten-months of custody. The defendant was also given a restraining order.
