Bob Price turned up at the home of the alleged father’s mum on Sutton Avenue, Barnsley, at just before 9pm on July 16 and began shouting.

He dented the occupant’s car and smashed the side window, leaving her “really scared,” prosecutor Brian Outhwaite told Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.

Price shouted: "I will f****** kill you," at the man.

He was accompanied by three men and women "ostensibly to collect some of the pregnant woman's clothing,"

He has previous convictions for drug possession, making threats and robbery, the court heard.

Michael Cane-Soothill, mitigating, said Price claimed he was only carrying a metal bar that he found nearby, but agreed he would be sentenced on the prosecution’s version of events that it was a machete.

He said Price has low cognitive skills, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a "low tolerance to stressful situations."

The court heard he "has had to break the rules on purpose so he can be placed in segregation" because other inmates hold a grudge against his older brother.

He has served the equivalent of a seven-month sentence, Mr Cane-Soothill said, and urged the judge to impose a suspended sentence.

Price, aged 18, of the Travellers’ site in Barnsley, pleaded guilty to affray, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon, on August 24 and September 8.

Judge Peter Kelson QC imposed a restraining order and ordered him to serve 12 months in a Young Offenders' Institution.
