Police release picture of jailed stalker who sent unwanted deliveries to his ex-wife including a sex-toy

Sheffield Crown Court heard on November 25 how Martyn Lawrence, aged 32, of Portland Street, Barnsley, admitted stalking after a string of offences in September and admitted breaching a restraining order.

Recorder Michael Fanning told Lawrence: “This represents a continuation of a pattern of behaviour against your ex-wife which is persistent and has been prolonged.”

Matthew Burdon, prosecuting, said Lawrence’s ex-wife realised a rear windscreen wiper on her car had been pulled off in September and a neighbour’s CCTV captured Lawrence approaching the vehicle.

The complainant also received two takeaway orders within minutes of each other, according to Mr Burdon, and these were linked to the defendant by bank statements and transactions.

Mr Burdon added the complainant also saw the defendant at a junction near Myrtle Street, Barnsley, waving as she drove past and he was later seen making a rude gesture towards her.

The complainant also received three parcel deliveries which she had not ordered and these included a sex toy, a three-in-one projector which was a baby item and a baby blanket and she suspected they came from the defendant.

Mr Burdon said transactions had come out of the complainant’s account and these were linked to a PayPal account used by the defendant.

Also, on September 14, the complainant discovered a front windscreen wiper missing from her vehicle, according to Mr Burdon, and CCTV showed Lawrence had approached the vehicle and snapped the wiper off.

The complainant stated she fears the defendant will not leave her alone and she feels resigned to the fact she will never have him out of her life.

Lawrence, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to stalking causing serious alarm or distress and to breaching the restraining order by visiting Myrtle Street.

Francis Edusei, defending, said Lawrence suffers with a personality disorder and has mild depression and alcohol issues.

Recorder Fanning sentenced Lawrence to 22 months of custody and ordered that the restraining order stays in place until further order.
