Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on August 20 how Thomas O’Neil, aged 32, of Elmhirst Lane, Dodworth, Barnsley, claims there have been a lot of arguments with his mother and she drove him into a rage.

Deputy District Judge Phillip Houlden said O’Neil recalled grabbing his mother by the shoulder and pushing her and he also damaged a door at an earlier time.

His mother stated O’Neil’s behaviour has left her with depression.

John Evans, defending, said O’Neil has alcohol problems but this case has been a wake-up call and he no longer wishes to live with his mother.

O’Neil was sentenced to a 12-month community order with rehabilitation and must pay £85 costs, an £85 victim surcharge and £50 compensation. He was given a 12-month restraining order.
