South Yorkshire police to merge information services

SOUTH Yorkshire Police has merged with Humberside Police for a third time – with the forces now sharing their ‘Information Services’ work.

The forces already run joint human resources and training departments and now they are to merge those which look after all the computer systems, technology and equipment used by the forces.

Nigel Hiller, South Yorkshire Police finance director, said: “The creation of a single Information Service model will assist in the drive for long-term sustainability.

“It will deliver savings while enhancing services to both forces – effectively providing more for less.

“The service will provide a platform for future changes and both help in being more efficient and effective while sharing knowledge and resources.

“It will also reduce duplication, improve ways of working, share expertise and reduce bureaucracy.”
