South Yorkshire Police stop 43 cars on a single road in one day

South Yorkshire Police stopped no fewer than 43 vehicles on a single road in one day as part of a crackdown on illegal motorists.

Officers from Barnsley and the Roads Policing Team joined forces with partners agencies, including Barnsley Council and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, on Wednesday (January 15) to target those committing traffic and driving offences on the A61 in Tankersley.

Two arrests were made as part of the crackdown, which also saw two vehicles seized for having no tax. Another driver was slapped with a fixed penalty notice for having an illegal number plate. In total, 22 offences were recorded.

Sgt Darrell Needham from the Barnsley West Neighbourhood Team, who also co-ordinated the day of action, said: “Operation Voyager is about disrupting criminals use of our road networks, as well as ensuring drivers are abiding by the conditions of their driving licence.”
