South Yorkshire Police has demonstrated the value of pulling over cars after finding a drink driver, stolen car knife, illegal immigrant and even a cannabis farm after stopping three vehicles.

Roads policing officers patrolling the streets pulled over a white Peugeot in Sheffield on Wednesday to carry out a routine document check.

It was established that the car was not registered to the driver and had been stolen during a burglary in Sheffield in January.

The driver was arrested and the car was seized.

That same day, in Barnsley, a black Vauxhall Astra was stopped just off Westway and checks revealed that the driver was an illegal immigrant.

After detecting the smell of cannabis inside the car, investigative work led officers to a cannabis grow in a property.

An uninsured provisional licence holder was found driving a Peugeot 207 also pulled over in Barnsley.

He also tested positive for drug driving and a knife was found in the car.
