“We know just how invasive burglary is and the lasting impact it can leave on victims”

Police in Sheffield have charged 34 suspects as part of a neighbourhood crime crackdown focused on offences including burglary.

The work has been carried out by South Yorkshire Police Sheffield Neighbourhood Crime Team [NHCT], which has also led to 20 prisoners being held in the cells.

Offences identified by the team in August so far include burglary, taking of a motor vehicle and going equipped for theft.

Detective Sergeant Tom Jordan said: “The proactive work of our Neighbourhood Crime Team is all about disrupting offenders and hindering further criminality.

“We achieve this by targeting problem areas and making arrests, but also by staying alert to recent crime patterns such as the use of off-road or electric bikes.

“We know just how invasive burglary is and the lasting impact it can leave on victims. That’s why we’re constantly working behind the scenes to progress investigations and remove harmful criminals from our streets.”

Detailing the work of the NHCT, a South Yorkshire Police (SYP) spokesperson said the team is tasked with developing intelligence related to reports of burglary with incidents over the past 24 hours reviewed every single morning.

The force spokesperson continued: “Those with active lines of enquiry, such as traceable stolen property or footage capturing offenders, are progressed by the team.

“In 2026 so far, 126 prisoners have been arrested and processed following an investigation by the NHCT.

“34 of these have been charged and remanded to court on the day of arrest.”

Recent custodial sentences achieved after arrests by the NHCT include Mckenzie Williams, of Doncaster Road in Rotherham, who was jailed for five years in July.

Corey Rodgers, 21, of no fixed abode, was also jailed for more than five years in July after DNA from a dropped vape matched him to the scene of a burglary in Rotherham.
