Officers are appealing for information after two police cars were set on fire in Barnsley.

An unknown offender set fire to a marked Ford Kuga police car in a locked car park in Kendray, just before 11.30pm on Saturday, July 18.

The flames then spread to a Peugeot 308 parked nearby.

Both police cars have been written off after they suffered extensive damage.

Inspector Matthew Wood said: "After reviewing CCTV footage, we have no doubt that this fire was started deliberately.

“This reckless act has resulted in two operational police cars being removed off the roads, meaning we now have less resources to respond to people when they need us.

“Thankfully no one was injured and we are now working hard to identify those responsible.”

Anyone in the area on Saturday who witnessed anything suspicious, or who can assist with police enquiries, should call 101 and quote incident number 1,195 of July 18.
