South Yorkshire Police baby death probe continues

A South Yorkshire Police investigation into the death of a baby is continuing – 20 months after it was launched.

On Friday, November 30, just before 8pm, emergency services were called to a house in the Barnsley area after it was reported a baby was in cardiac arrest.

The nine-week old baby boy was taken to hospital but died on Monday, December 3.

A man and woman were arrested over the death earlier in the investigation and remain on bail today.

The man, who was 29 when he was last quizzed by detectives in October 2019, was held on suspicion of murder and wounding.

The woman, who was 28, was held on suspicion of wounding.Both were bailed pending further enquiries.

Earlier in the police probe, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton, leading the investigation, said: “This is a tragic and extremely complex case.”
