Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at Sheffield Crown Court – heard yesterday, Wednesday, April 15, how Catherine Pellegrine, aged 40, of Doncaster Road, Rotherham, had repeatedly been visiting her mum’s Rotherham home between November and April.

Alison Goldsmith, prosecuting, said Pellegrine kept visiting the home banging on doors and windows on numerous occasions while asking for money.

The court heard Pellegrine’s benefits were being paid into her mother’s account for her mother to manage.

However, her mother stated she cannot continue to live her life like this anymore.

Matthew Shepherd, defending, said Pellegrine, who suffers with anxiety and depression, and her mother have had a co-dependent relationship.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse sentenced Pellegrine to a 12 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement and she must pay a £90 victim surcharge. She was also given a six-month restraining order.
