Sheffield Crown Cout heard on December 22 how Afzaal Ahmed, aged 33, of Lister Street, Rotherham, was found to have 12 category A indecent images, four category B indecent images, and one category C indecent image, with category A being the most serious.

Loiuse Reevell, prosecuting, said: “He was arrested at his home on October 21, 2019, after police received information that someone at that property may have indecent images.”

Police recovered a mobile phone, according to Mrs Reevell, which revealed the downloaded indecent images which included eleven movies among the 12 category A images.

Mrs Reevell added officers also found an illegal extreme pornographic image depictng two adult females and a horse with intercourse taking place.

Ahmed pleaded guilty to making category A indecent images, category B indecent images and a category C indecent image from between October 16 to 22, 2019. He also admitted possessing an extreme pronographic image from the same period.

Mohammed Qazi said the offending only concerned activity during one week in October on a mobile phone and it did not involve a large number of images.

He added Ahmed’s offences would attract a significant stigma in his community.

Recorder Andrew Haslam told Ahmed: “The children in the images in counts one to three were as young as five years of age, and people like you, Mr Ahmed, who are found in possession of indecent images of children encourage the exploitation of children causing untold misery to them.

"I cannot begin to imagine the misery and distress that children go through to encourage men like you to search for images of them.”

However, Recorder Haslam added that he felt there was a considerable prospect of rehabilitation for the defendant.

Recorder Haslam sentenced Ahmed to a two-year community order with a 40-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. Ahmed was also placed on the Sex Offender Register and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.
