Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at the Sheffield Crown Court building – heard on Friday, June 5, how Dean Watson, aged 39, of Lang Avenue, Lundwood, Barnsley, was caught by police after he attempted to run away.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said the defendant had originally been convicted of assaulting emergency workers and was given a CRIMBO banning him from Barnsley town centre.

Mr Coyne added: “It’s a simple prohibition and he is seen on this particular day on June 4.”

Police described seeing Watson in the town centre for about 20 minutes drinking and speaking with his peers.

Mr Coyne said: “When police go to speak with him he’s attempted to run from them and he has been detained fairly quickly.”

Watson pleaded guilty to breaching the CRIMBO after he was caught in Peel Square, in Barnsley.

The court heard Watson had only just been given a 12-month community order on May 26 after he had breached his CRIMBO for the first time.

Kevin Ripley, defending, said Watson is on a methadone prescription which helps those with drug problems and he receives other medication and he took a bus to a medical centre but he fell asleep and woke in the town centre.

He added Watson then took a shortcut through the town centre and ended-up seeing and speaking with friends.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse sentenced Watson to a 12-week community order with a curfew.
