Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard today, Thursday, July 30, how Carrianne Summers, aged 35, of Morrison Road, Darfield, Barnsley, had been involved in a minor road traffic collision when police realised her vehicle registration plates did not match previously provided details.

Alison Goldsmith, prosecuting, said police had been called to a minor collision and details had been exchanged but a police officer noticed the defendant’s vehicle details did not match with previously provided vehicle registration details in her name.

Ms Goldsmith added Summers had been using registration plates from another vehicle.

Saleh Alnoud, defending, said it had been suggested to Summers that using false number plates would make it okay for her to drive without insurance.

He added: “She was in the pub talking to friends when a conversation about not having insurance came up casually and as it happens one of the people present suggested she could get a number plate which he could give her and it would make it okay.”

Magistrates fined Summers £240 and ordered her to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge. They also imposed six penalty points on her driving licence.

Mr Alnoud said: “She is very remorseful and very unlikely to be before the courts again.”
