Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at Sheffield Crown Court – heard how Anthony McCafferty, 43, of St Leonard’s Place, Eastwood, Rotherham, damaged the door at a property on Cambrian Street, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, while asking to be let in.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said McCafferty had been staying at the property and kicked the door about 1am, on September 3, while he was asking for his phone.

Kathryn Lill, defending, said McCafferty had to be arrested and placed in a cell because he never received a letter to appear at court because of difficulties with addresses.

District Judge Grace Leong told McCafferty his sentence was deemed served by time spent in custody.
