South Yorkshire man ignored ban on seeing ex and was caught hiding with drugs

A Barnsley man who flouted a court order banning him from contacting his ex-partner was found hiding in her back garden with cannabis, a court has heard.

Robert Key visited the woman's home on West Street, on March 31, in spite of the non-molestation order made last September.

Prosecutor Jo Lewis-Crookes said his ex called the police and officers found him with a small amount of the Class B drug.

John Booth, mitigating, said: "He went around there uninvited, He wanted to see his children. He stupidly tried to hide in the back garden."

Key, 34, of Bruce Avenue, admitted both offences at Sheffield Magistrates Court, on Wednesday.

District Judge Naomi Redhouse told him: "You know if something like this were to happen again you would go straight back to prison.”

She imposed an eight week curfew from 7pm to 7am, and ordered him to pay a £90 surcharge and £85 costs.
