Daniel White smashed the dining room window of a two-bed terraced house on Beresford Road, Maltby, to gain access and made off with a 49-inch LG 3D television, on March 10, last year.

But a fingerprint left at the scene led police to his address on Haydn Road, 130 yards away, where the television was found.

Sheffield Crown Court heard White has 14 previous convictions for 22 offences, including violence, damage and possession of drugs.

At the time of the offence he was on a 12 month community order for drink driving and failing to attend court.

James Gould, mitigating, said White was unemployed at the time and has been on bail for 17 months, but was now back in work.

He urged the judge to suspend any sentence because of the delay to the case coming to court and because White would lose his job.

White, 27, pleaded guilty to burglary, after initially denying the offence.

On Thursday, Recorder Taryn Turner told him he was "old enough to know better and "took leave of your senses."

"You have to understand this sort of behaviour can't be tolerated by the courts," she said.

She sentenced him to six months, suspended for one year, and ordered him to undergo 15 days of rehabilitation and pay £240 towards the court's costs.
