South Yorkshire addict caught with cash and hard drugs

Nathan Dunn accelerated away from officers on Racecommon Road, in Barnsley, and abandoned his car, but was caught hiding nearby, at 9pm on August 7, 2018.

Prosecutor Gurdial Singh told Sheffield Crown Court how £530 in cash was found on him, along with wraps containing £65 of cocaine and £36 of heroin.

When his home on Rayley Street in Barnsley was searched, £208 in cash was discovered along with seven grams of cannabis.

He claimed the drugs were for his own use, My Singh added.

Dunn has 19 convictions for 40 offences and was jailed in 2015 for three years and eight months for possession with intent to supply.

Michael Walsh, mitigating, said: "He was in the throes of a heavy reliance on Class A drugs. He is no longer a drug user."

He said Dunn now lives with his mother, after spending two months in hospital.

Dunn, 27, of Broadlea Hill, Leeds, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs, after denying possession with intent to supply them, when he appeared at Sheffield Crown Court, on Thursday.

Judge Peter Kelson QC told him: "You have a very long criminal record involving drugs. You have been entrenched in the drugs scene for too long."

He sentenced him to two months, suspended for six months because "this matter is so old."

The £798 found on Dunn was confiscated and the drugs were destroyed.
