Keeley Rippon said the car ended up crashing through the railings on Spinkhill Drive in Woodthorpe before being chased through the field.

“It was being chased all the way from Wakefield and ended up smashing through Richmond old college fields for a chase,” she said.

“The car ended up smashing into a tree and they fled. Police didn’t catch them.

"Bearing in mind our kids play on that field and it’s also full of dog walkers, it's so lucky no innocent kids or dog walkers were hurt. Police said the driver had no concern for others at all.”

Multiple patrol cars were involved in the chase, with a police plane also called in to assist.

Police said that a man had knocked on the doors of two homes that evening, forcing his way inside one before grabbing a set of house keys, and attacking the occupant at the other before stealing his car keys and vehicle.

A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the two offences, and police asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 877 of July 21.
