The police pursuit was mounted on Saturday afternoon when a dog handler became suspicious about a car in the Manor Top area.

When the driver was asked to pull over, he refused and sped off along Mansfield Road.

The driver was caught within 100 metres of the abandoned car, but the passenger went to ground in nearby gardens.

Two police dogs, brothers Victor and Vinny, tracked the passenger down and both men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug offences.

The driver was also detained for driving offences.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Luckily the pair were on hand to guide officers to his hiding place. The lad had the common sense not to run.”
