Six people bailed in Barnsley murder inquiry after Stephen Georgeson death

Six people arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of 32-year-old Stephen Georgeson in Barnsley have been bailed.

Stephen, who was known locally as ‘Squeek’, died on Sunday, 7 June after suffering a serious head injury in a suspected serious assault in the Houghton Road area of Thurnscoe at around 7pm on Friday, 5 June.

A 36-year-old man, two 34-year-old men and two 15-year-old boys who were arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, 9 June have been bailed. A 35-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, 7 June has also been bailed.

Police said Stephen was treated by paramedics the night before the suspected serious assault after he was found unconscious in Derry Grove Park just before 8.30pm. He returned home a short time later.

They reiterated their appeal for help with their murder inquiry. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 650 of 5 June 2020.
