Six arrested by Serious Violent Crime Taskforce in Sheffield city centre

The Serious Violent Crime Taskforce was deployed in Sheffield city centre yesterday and continues to patrol today, South Yorkshire Police has confirmed.

The police force said that it comes as part of its ‘high-visibility enforcement activity’ that is taking place across the whole county.

The team in the city centre arrested six people for a range of offences, including burglary, theft from a motor vehicle and possession with intent to supply.

Sergeant Ashley Franklin said: “Amongst those arrested was a 40-year-old man who was spotted acting suspiciously by our officers, he was suspected to be involved in drug supply and subsequently searched.

“Our team located drugs within his clothing and his was arrested for possession with intent to supply and possession of controlled drugs. He has since been released under investigation.

“Burglary is one of the top priorities in the city centre, so we were pleased to also make several arrests in connection to these types of offences.

“We also carried out 19 stop-searches at various locations throughout the centre which are part of our high-visibility tactics and reassurance patrols.

“The city centre should be a safe place to work, live and visit, we have been working with our colleagues from the Sheffield City Centre neighbourhood team to support their ongoing engagement work and enhance their presence on the streets.
